PISSOURI WATER

Water distribution is back to normal after almost a week of shortages due to a burst mains, the Pissouri community council leader Lazaros Lazarou said on Monday.

The damage that was finally repaired on Friday night and supply was back to normal, Lazarou said.

It took the water department crew two days to fix the pipe but after it was fixed, it burst in a different place, leaving the Limassol district community without water for almost a week. This caused several problems to residents, businesses and tourists.

The council was forced to try and alleviate the problem last week in cooperation with the Limassol district office by buying water from two privately-owned boreholes and transferring water to the community with water trucks, measures that several residents said were not enough.

Lazarou said that although the burs pipes were fixed, there had been some problems until Sunday. “It took some time for water distribution to return to normal levels, mainly due to air in pipes, and until all reservoirs were full, which caused some problems until yesterday but we have slowly returned to normal,” Lazarou said.

He added that the main pipe was around 20 years old and that the water department planned on replacing part of it.

“The water is back on, and I hope nothing goes wrong again and that we’re left without it in the middle of the heatwave,” a Pissouri resident said.
